Description

Under the oppressive regime of Saddam Hussein in Iraqi Kurdistan, two orphaned brothers, Dana and Zana, are inspired to travel to America. A decision the pair arrive at after seeing ‘Superman’ in the city’s first cinema. They have no passports or money—and their only means of transport is a donkey called Michael Jackson. With all the odds against them, they set out toward their dream, discovering on their journey that perhaps they are superheroes themselves.

Karzan Kader

Karzan Kader was born in 1982 in Sulaymania, Kurdistan. Six years old, during the war in Iraq, Karzan and his family left Kurdistan and eventually ended up in Sweden. Kader graduated from Dramatiska Institute as a film director in 2010 and the same year he won a student academy award for his graduation film. ‘Bekas’ is Kader’s feature film debut.
